Today Shri Mukatsar Sahib district also joined the elite group of Punjab Ecocabs revolution. Joint Liability groups (JLGs) were formed by Regional Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (RCED) on behalf of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in Sri Mukatsar Sahib. These groups were linked with banks that have sanctioned financial assistance to 41 members for the purchase of Eco-Cabs (Rickshaws). Mr. Amit Dhaka, IAS, Officiating Deputy Commissioner, Sri Mukatsar Sahib, today handed over the rickshaws to the members of these Joint Liability Groups.
While welcoming the Chief Guest, Mr Parmjit Singh, Principal Consultant, RCED informed that on behalf of NABARD, RCED conducted 9 Skill Development Programme under Skill Development Initiative, 4 Micro Entrepreneurship Development Programme (MEDP), trained about 375 persons and formed 100 Self Help Groups and 125 Joint Liability Groups in District Sri Mukatsar Sahib.
Mr. M.M. Suri, DDM, NABARD, Sri Mukatsar Sahib briefed that NABARD is forming JLGs in Punjab with a motive to provide security and sustainable livelihood opportunities for weaker section of society.
While handing on the rickshaws to 41 members the Chief Guest Mr. Amit Dhaka conveyed his blessing to the members and advised them for timely repayment. He also suggested the banks to assist such activities on continuous basis.
Prominent among the others who were present in the programme include Mr. Varinder Kumar IAS, Assistant Commissioner under training, S. Baljit Singh Pawar, Lead District Manager, Mr. Gurjant Singh, GM, DIC, Mr. DK Dhawan, Director, Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) Mr. Surjit Singh, Manager PNB, Mr. Rawat, Mr. A.K. Bajaj, Mr. Krishan Gilhotra, Mr. Parween Gandhi, Mr. R.K. Gupta and Mr. Jagbir Singh.
