Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kamal Kishore Yadav today launched an eco-rickshaw service in the city.
With the assistance of the district administration, five rickshaw pullers were provided with eco-rickshaws. The loan for purchasing the eco-rickshaws has been provided by the Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) at the interest rate of four per cent. The rickshaw pullers have to repay the loan in three years.
Besides the DC, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Abhinav Trikha, assistant general manager of the OBC SK Dhall, bank manager VK Kansal and assistant project officer of the District Rural Development Agency, Bathinda, Sadhu Ram Kusla were also present on the occasion.
Yadav said at least 100 such rickshaw pullers, who run rickshaws on hire basis, would be identified in the district with the help of NGOs for providing loans to purchase eco-rickshaws.
Kusla said the office of the ADC (Development) first identified five rickshaw pullers with the help of an NGO, the Dost Welfare Society, Bathinda, and then received applications from them. Later, their applications were processed and sent to the bank for sanctioning of loans.
